Application:
Since it is easily soluble in water, does not bind divalent cations, and is not toxic to cells, HEPES is the most popular and effective buffering agent used to maintain the ideal pH value of the culture medium. HEPES significantly outperforms other buffer systems (phosphate, carbonate) at maintaining the desired pH level with little degradation of the culture medium’s quality.
